• This article just received an update, because I made a discovery the other day that will make the world of document signing so much more reachable to those who need to send out documents for signatures.

A promo for an e-sign service crossed my screen the other day, with claims that it's free service was better than others out there. I always challenge such claims, so that sent me off to the search engine to find out if their offering really was better. First, the company only offered 2 free requests a month instead of the usual 3 most others offer, and second, there are more companies offering anywhere from 3 to 5 requests in a month than I thought.

Some don't let you save templates in the free version, some are better for simple documents, some let you add as many fields as you require. Some let you duplicate a document to send to someone else.

When I discovered this, another thought dawned on me, and it's a thought that has gotten me into trouble with others in the past when I first wrote this article. In fact, it was an accusation around the use of free services that spawned the article in the first place back in June 2020.

I've now updated this article on how to conduct business for free!

  • The latest public sector strike that halted Canada’s economy was the Canadian Postal Workers strike in the lead-up to Christmas but this issue has been a persistent issue for many years. Powerful unions in critical industries have been forcing workers to down tools when they’re needed the most. Most Canadians agree that unions should be able to strike and bargain for better wages and rights, but should that include critical industry workers as well who routinely use strikes to shut down the economy?

  • Canadians should brace for multiple tax increases as they prepare for 2025. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation released its annual report outlining major federal tax increases coming in the new year. While many tax increases are upcoming, the federation highlighted increases to payroll taxes, the carbon tax, alcohol taxes, and the temporary sales tax holiday.
The Liberals are raising the mandatory contributions to the Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance in 2025. The combined increase will cost Canadians up to $403 next year.

  • The federal government’s plan to impose “net neutrality” regulations went beyond its authority, a U.S. appeals court ruled on Jan. 2, the Epoch Times reported. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations, which bar internet service providers from blocking or limiting access to users, violate federal law because the providers provide an information service, not a telecommunications service, U.S. Circuit Judge Judge Richard Allen Griffin wrote for a unanimous panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

The research team at the University of Technology Sydney, led by Seymour, designed an ingenious experiment to test how surveillance affects our unconscious visual processing. They recruited 54 undergraduate students and split them into two groups: one group completed a visual task while being conspicuously monitored by multiple surveillance cameras, while the control group performed the same task without cameras present.

The monitored group was shown the surveillance setup beforehand, including a live feed of themselves from the adjacent room, and had to sign additional consent forms acknowledging they would be watched. To ensure participants felt the full weight of surveillance, cameras were positioned to capture their whole body, face, and even their hands as they performed the task.
