Went winter foraging this morning, -16C with a windchill in the -20's and unfortunately, my daughter's boots hadn't fully dried out as much as she thought they had. We intended to be foraging both for curly dock AND rose hips today, maybe even gathering some pitch from some of the conifers to see if we can create our own waterproofing oil solution, but all we got done was fill 2 large paper yard waste bags with curly dock. We estimate having brought home close to 10 lbs. That will be three of these bags to process now. I'd held off on the one in the cooking shelter, thinking my kids wouldn't want me doing this in the house, but my daughter asked me to start processing the seeds - in the house! So I should start on that after Christmas. For another perspective on how big these plants are vs the bags, here is the photo from earlier this fall sitting on the camping chair inside my cooking shelter.
