Happy Canada Day! I watched our neighbourhood parade with some neighbours this morning, then when my daughter came home from work, we went down to the local rec centre for some cake and ran into the same neighbours there for a moment. We came home and had pancakes with maple syrup, a splurge my daughter's hoped to make for years and I finally said we could do it this year! While the price of honey and other syrups around it had gone up significantly, the price of the maple syrup was the same was it was a few years ago, and not knowing if it too would shoot up, I okayed the celebration purchase.
The larger flag in this image was put up during the Freedom Convoy back in February. I had the flag string from last year, and if you look inside, you can see one of the 4 Canada maple leaf paper lanterns. It was great seeing so many in red and white after all Canada's gone through in the past year (this time last year people were crying to cancel Canada Day over residential school unmarked grave reports). City Hall's flag did go up today after all, with a temporary repair, and full repairs of the flag pole will happen on schedule next week. I still think the timing of the "broken part" is suspicious, but no such "mishaps" in our neighbourhood! My two small pot roasts are cooking very well in the crockpot inside the shelter, not sure if you can see it in this pic or not the way the lighting is. I may just take a fork to them and turn them into pulled beef right there in the crockpot tonight for dinner.
