This pattern, where the first half of the night is stable and the second half has concentrated plumes activity has become more common over the past year. When you can smell and taste these poisons in the air, the patterns become self-evident.
Historically, the Barium type was virtually always dispersed 12 to 24 hours before incoming precipitation. In the past year, the Sedative-Stimulant and/or Drywall Dust type have been used before incoming precipitation perhaps 20% of the time. This is an interesting change.
Both of these types (Drywall Dust and Sedative-Stimulant) are closely related. In fact, they are virtually identical except that the Sedative-Stimulant contains an additional component that tastes like a sleeping pill (diphenhydramine). Otherwise they are functionally identical. Both of these types are drying. They dry my wet mask very rapidly. They also make the air feel very dry. Considering this, it's little surprise that these types are now used more often before precipitation.
