A federal judge has ruled that a lawsuit alleging that Facebook parent Meta favors hiring foreign workers over U.S. citizens can move forward. U.S. Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler on Feb. 25 denied Meta’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit, which accuses the big tech giant of systematically preferring H-1B visa holders because it could pay them less than American workers. After years of litigation, two men who filed a lawsuit against the federal government challenging the vaccine mandate for travel will get the chance to argue their case before a federal court. Shawn Rickard, a Canadian permanent resident from Britain for over 30 years and Karl Harrison, a Canadian citizen, will have their lawsuit heard by a federal court after a motion to dismiss their case was shot down. A Nova Scotia provincial judge has had a lawsuit challenging the conduct of her superior during the COVID-19 pandemic tossed out. Judge Rickcola Brinton was challenging an earlier decision by the chief justice of Nova Scotia, Michael Wood, with regard to a complaint she had made about Chief Judge Pamela Williams. Video streaming site Rumble has filed a lawsuit against the state of California in response to legislation forcing social media platforms to censor political speech. Rumble is being represented by The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which filed suit against AB 2655, aka the “Defending Democracy from Deepfake Deception Act of 2024,” in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division.
