• A London food bank is expanding its use of face biometrics to facilitate the distribution of food to its customers through local shops. A trial of the FaceDonate app by Hackney Foodbank in London, England, was launched a year ago, and included nearly 200 users, Reuters reports. Now the app will be made available to all Hackney Foodbank users. The app is used at participating local grocery stores, where the user can access a wider variety of foodstuffs than the food bank is able to stock. The app prevents the purchase of products like alcohol and tobacco. It also allows fundraising by individuals and businesses, and tracks donation spending.

  • Just had a thought while going through my newsfeed this morning. I'm already planning a one week "Pantry Bingo" for late June. June will be "Family" month in our group, focussing on maintaining the health of our household, naturally. The thought I just had, relates to discovering food and medicine right outside your front door! I already have a draft outline for hosting a foraging workshop that I'd wanted to do for the local foodbank, but no one there was interested, strangely enough. In most locales, things are growing now. I also want to do a 30 day challenge on foraging, where you will not merely sit and learn about the concept, but actually participate with what you are learning.

Just sit and learn for a single workshop event: $20

Actively participate over the course of one month a few minutes every day and finish with foods and wildcrafted products you can use: $35.

What would really make either of these presentations useful, is learning where everyone lives (by region as you are comfortable sharing) so that I can tailor various examples to your area.

Let me know if this interests you or those you know.
