Hotel reservations near the Canadian border have seen notable decreases as well. Canadian travel agency Flight Centre rang the alarm that booking to the US in February plummeted an alarming 40% YoY. There were over 20.4 million visits to the US from Canada in 2024, aiding in $20.5 billion in spending. The US Travel Association believes a 10% decline in Canadian tourism could shed $2.1 billion from the US economy and cost up to 14,000 jobs. The association noted that if the current trend continues, the US economy will lose at least $4 billion in tourism. Tourism states like Florida, New York, Nevada, Texas, and California will experience the worst repercussions of this travel boycott.

The Biden administration ignored many of the problems in North Carolina after the storm, leaving people sleeping in tents in winter. Who can ever forget FEMA under Biden, avoiding homes that had Trump signs in front of them?

When it came to the I-40, Biden’s transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg said it would take months, maybe even years to fix it.

Sean Duffy was sworn in as Trump’s transportation secretary just a few weeks ago and the I-40 is already open again. The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced the reopening of Interstate 40 on Saturday morning.

I-40 was destroyed by Hurricane Helene five months ago. Flash flooding along the Pigeon River damaged large sections of the eastbound lanes near the Tennessee line.

“This marks a significant step toward reconnecting North Carolina with Tennessee, and it comes as a relief to travelers and businesses alike", the NCDOT said.

It’s amazing what can be accomplished when you have competent people doing the job and a commitment to getting the work done.

After years of litigation, two men who filed a lawsuit against the federal government challenging the vaccine mandate for travel will get the chance to argue their case before a federal court. Shawn Rickard, a Canadian permanent resident from Britain for over 30 years and Karl Harrison, a Canadian citizen, will have their lawsuit heard by a federal court after a motion to dismiss their case was shot down. Rickard and Harrison had previously filed a legal challenge against the Trudeau government’s vaccine travel mandates that was subsumed under another court case filed by People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier and former Newfoundland Premier Brian Peckford.
