• Is this coming to CANADA ? UK’s government is accused of attempting to rush a controversial bill – the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error & Recovery) Bill – through parliament. Critics say the draft legislation contains some dystopian social credit-style surveillance provisions. it would also serve to set up a system of “mass spying” of bank accounts, carried out by the government (the Department for Work and Pensions, DWP). That includes constant monitoring of people’s bank statements, the ability to revoke driving licenses, and search premises, computers, and other devices.
The UK’s welfare system would in this way be turned into “a digital surveillance system (…) with unprecedented privacy intrusions,” said Big Brother Watch Director Silkie Carlo.

This legislation closely mirrors the EU AI Act with requirements for risk management, impact assessments, consumer notifications, and protections against algorithmic discrimination. It highlights the urgent need for organizations to adapt and align with these emerging standards.

  • The deadline for U.S. federal agencies to enforce REAL ID specifications for identity credentials has been pushed back by two more years to May 5, 2027 by the TSA. The previous deadline to meet the security standard for ID documents did not give states sufficient time to implement the changes, coming a mere 20 years after the passage of the legislation mandating the change. An eleventh-hour executive order by U.S. President Biden presents the adoption of digital ID, in the form of mobile driver’s licenses, as a national cybersecurity imperative. The EO stipulates security requirements for software supply chains and policy changes to enable better threat detection and more stringent access control measures. Federal agencies are instructed to consider grants to support mDL rollouts by states.

  • House Passes Bill Banning Men From Women's Sports

The House passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act on Jan. 14, with a vote of 218-206. The legislation excludes males from participating in women’s sports sponsored by organizations that receive federal funding.

The text stipulates that “sex shall be recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”

While it's a great thing that this bill passed, it's certainly NOT a great thing for our society to have devolved to the point where we need to pass such legislation . . .

  • How utter stupid can these people be (including the dolts who buy this hogslop)? And even if you actually are that ignorant, do you REALLY believe the energy companies are going to absorb that cost? Really?

New York to Tax Fossil Fuel Producers $75 Billion for Climate Change Damages

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday signed legislation that will require fossil-fuel producers to pay $75 billion to supposedly help the state adapt to climate change. “This landmark legislation shifts the cost of climate adaptation from everyday New Yorkers to the fossil fuel companies most responsible for the pollution,” Ms. Hochul’s office declared.

The top implied admission is New York is both broke and desperate.

  • It is absolutely amazing, AND HEARTBREAKING, that we have to even do this but:

We are trying to get bills passed or amended in each state that states all patients can have a family member or advocate with them at all times. We are making traction in 13 states and have gotten some bills passed but we need to get it out to the public to drive public support. Steve Reiter, the founder of the project, has a tragic story of his young wife dying alone in the hospital. We have thousands of victims that this happened to and want to get iron clad legislation so this doesn't happen again.

It would really help us get the word out with a goal of building state committees to lobby our representatives by doing lots of media. Most likely it would be Steve, the founder, a victim, a doctor or nurse and possible an attorney on the interview if possible.

Please read the bills attached in the link provided, you will clearly see the problems with these bills. Any input would be appreciated as well.

  • Australia is gearing up to roll out some of the world’s strictest social media rules, with Parliament having pushed through legislation to bar anyone under 16 from creating accounts on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. It’s a sweeping measure but, as the ink dries, the questions are piling up. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Labor government and the opposition teamed up on Thursday to pass the new restrictions with bipartisan enthusiasm. And why not? Opinion polls show a whopping 77% of Australians are behind the idea. Protecting kids online is an easy sell which is why it’s often used to usher in the most draconian of laws. Still, the devil—as always—is in the details.

  • Video streaming site Rumble has filed a lawsuit against the state of California in response to legislation forcing social media platforms to censor political speech. Rumble is being represented by The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which filed suit against AB 2655, aka the “Defending Democracy from Deepfake Deception Act of 2024,” in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division. The legislation is Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom’s response to a deepfake satire video of Kamala Harris that was shared on X by Elon Musk among others.

  • Canada’s proposed legislation, Bill S-210 (first introduced in late 2011 as the “Protecting Young Persons from Exposure to Pornography Act”) has cleared the Senate. It is currently close to ending its “journey” through the House of Commons before getting adopted. And adopted it easily be very soon – even if the process in the committee currently looking into it did not include any critics and their testimonies.
