• Sometimes when I introduce myself online or in person as your Biblical Natural Health Coach, I'll tag onto the end of my short speel, "Don't worry! I won't make you go vegan!" This is because of a discussion I rarely ever see coming out of the vegan space, and I read magazines that sometimes push the vegan diet, with articles written by trainers, dieticians, nutritionists, sports coaches, and others. That discussion is the issue of bioavailability. I discuss this issue, along with sharing research papers around why certain nutrients are best obtained from meat and dairy, often red meat more than pink or white, and fish. Though this article focuses more on red meat.

I just updated this article again! It's been updated a few times now since it was first written in 2022, and additional links for further reading are given at the end of the article. Today's update was a second voice speaking up around the issue of PUFA's in the modern processed diet, but sharing how damage done can be reversed.

If you've recently read this article, scan to the end for the latest update:

  • What do you do with soured milk? Make cheese!!! I typically make my own cheese salsa dip these days, but for some time now, I've been wanting to make a batch of wild-herbed ricotta. It even passed the taste test with my son, who isn't the easiest to please.

My daughter's idea of a cheesecake made me think of adding one of my wild syrups to the cheese such as fir, chokecherry, saskatoon berry, or pine mugolio and making a wild-flavoured cheesecake. I might try that idea the next time there is a heavy cream container cheesing itself in the fridge.

Click here to read how the experiment played out:

  • Realities like this in Kelowna, are why I encourage you to consider my Natural Health Monthly Retainer, or my newest offering, The $5 Question. Both offerings are not intended to handle emergency situations, but to handle queries to either help you over a non-emergency situation or help you in figuring out preventive measures to avoid a situation. If you keep returning to the same question though, I will recommend we switch over to the coaching so a plan of action can be put into place and monitored for improvement.

Take a load off mainstream medical's doctor shortage and overworked emergency personnel, by learning how to handle more health issues for yourself.

Here's the link to the latest clinic closure here in Kelowna: https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/529288/Spall-Medical-Clinic-to-stop-taking-walk-in-patients

  • Apparently, even in the world of natural health, you have your stalwarts who know what they know and refuse to entertain any change to what they know, and who get threatened enough to slander and lambaste anyone who questions it. The level of lambasting and slander by a so-called herbalist, reminded me of the medical terminology problem rearing it's head out there.

Let me wrap this up now. You will find me using modern terms for conditions the human body has suffered for millenia. I don't apologize! The herbs that helped way back then, continue to help now in the exact same ways for the exact same conditions under different names. If modern research calls into question long-held understandings, and that research isn't trying to sway the disillusioned masses or swing over to eastern concepts of medicine, I will consider it.

  • Curly Dock Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yes, I made chocolate chip cookies using curly dock seed flour! Of course there was more to it than that, when you learn to cook with wild provisions, there's always more to it.

This is a great recipe to have if don't or can't have eggs in the house, don't or can't have milk in the house, and you still want a cookie! If you can't have gluten either due to glyphosate sensitivities (such as chron's or colitis), you can try the alternative flour the original author recommends in addition to the curly dock. The author also suggests that if you want to reduce the fat (something no longer recommended due to the body's use of dietary fat to create the various hormones your body uses, nerve health, etc) you can replace a quarter cup of fat with apple sauce and reduce some of the water as well. I have made applesauce cake and cake muffins in the past, so I know this can work with regular flour, I haven't tried it with wild flour yet.

Click through for the recipe and the experiment that successfully led to it:

  • Approaching a new year always means assessing what worked over the past year, noting what didn't work, and seeing what can be improved upon.

As with many practices in the world of alternative medicine, my client intake form is several pages long and takes roughly 15 minutes to fill out in person with a pen. I have come to the realization, that as technically forward as most of us are these days, as much as we do business online far more than we ever did in the past, there are some tasks that are still considered "too much work", and it becomes a barrier to obtaining service.

Now when you visit my FREE Session page, you have the option to download, fill, print, sign, scan, and email back to me your Client Intake Packet, OR, you can click the e-signature link to fill it out right there in your browser and send it to me that way. If both sets of forms say they are over quota, just drop me a line requesting the e-signature link and fill it out in your browser directly from that link in your email. If you are reaching out to me over DM on a social platform, the link can be given to you that way as well.

  • 2024 was an Amazing Year!

We could also call it "The Year of Expansion"! Selling our teas by the cup this year was a major hit!

Sales of our teas went so well over the course of 2024, that we are doing our first ever Top Five Tea Report!!!

We are now looking at our calendar and figuring out just how much more foraging will need to be done to prepare for the fairs we want to attend this year! As it is, some of our ingredients got dangerously low that we harvested last year, which may mean putting various limited-run teas on our table if the growing season starts out slow again.

Do keep an eye on our web calendar. There are a number of fairs pencilled in offline that will begin appearing once they are registered for. We were asked multiple times about advanced foraging workshops, which will be headed up by Marilynn from her Biblical Natural Health Coaching website, if this interests you, drop her a line at bnhc@naturalhealthcoaching.ca and she'll send you the draft list that you can share your feedback and months you'd like to attend. Various homeschooling parents have also shown interest in our introductory foraging workshop as well. If those interest you too, send an email to Marilynn as well.

We have a feeling that 2025 is going to be a busy year for Ashtree Wildcrafting! We wish you the best of health this year, and look forward to seeing you in person at a fair or event.

Click through to read the full report and see a few pics:

  • This article just received an update, because I made a discovery the other day that will make the world of document signing so much more reachable to those who need to send out documents for signatures.

A promo for an e-sign service crossed my screen the other day, with claims that it's free service was better than others out there. I always challenge such claims, so that sent me off to the search engine to find out if their offering really was better. First, the company only offered 2 free requests a month instead of the usual 3 most others offer, and second, there are more companies offering anywhere from 3 to 5 requests in a month than I thought.

Some don't let you save templates in the free version, some are better for simple documents, some let you add as many fields as you require. Some let you duplicate a document to send to someone else.

When I discovered this, another thought dawned on me, and it's a thought that has gotten me into trouble with others in the past when I first wrote this article. In fact, it was an accusation around the use of free services that spawned the article in the first place back in June 2020.

I've now updated this article on how to conduct business for free!
