A client came to me near the end of June, complaining of upset stomach that various over-the-counter medicines wouldn't touch. This client had had their gallbladder removed over five years ago, and Gaviscon used to settle it. Baking soda was kind of working. Switching to Tart Cherry and Sauerkraut weren't touching it either. The client complained of burning in the stomach that just wouldn't go away, queeziness, etc. Returning to baking soda would amplify mucous generation that seemed salty and the mucous would take awhile to clear out every morning.

Here, we see Aaron and his sons eating bread that unleavened. Leaven is an old word for rising agents used to make bread fluffy. This might be yeast most typically, or baking soda/powder, or eggs, etc. In Scripture, when used in the physical manner, leaven often is given yeast-like properties, so probably a form of yeast. God uses the term leaven to also describe sin, and how just like a little leaven leavens the whole lump, so a little sin spreads and becomes a cancer to the soul. I paraphrased a passage from the Gospels in that last sentence, where leaven could be interpreted "raiser" and "raises" the whole lump. When we bake a loaf of yeast bread today, we talk about giving the dough time to rise, traditionally with three rises, two in the bowl, and the last one in the pan.

Secondly in this passage from Leviticus, we see mention of the sacrifices ONLY reserved for the priesthood to eat, including the sin and trespass offerings. As we begin Passion Week today, we remember why Christ came to earth as a baby in a manger. He chose to walk the way of the Cross to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins, once and for all, and then to rise again to conquer death and grant us life eternal with Him. Next weekend, we will celebrate Good Friday, the day Christ took our place, paying the death penalty for us on the Cross, and then we'll celebrate Resurrection Sunday, when He rolled away the stone from the tomb and walked out in his glorified body to greet first the women, and then the rest of His disciples.

The sacrifices for redemption, given in the Law, have been completed once and for all by the perfect Lamb of God! Indeed, today, we cry Hosanna! Blessed is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord!
